CarbonCurb Action 5
Make sure all the lights in your home are LEDs.

LEDs are arguably the greatest breakthrough in energy-efficient technology, saving the world billions of dollars and gobs of greenhouse gas emissions, with the potential to save so much more. Unfortunately, LEDs have yet to fill many homes. If you have outdated lights installed in your home, you are like many Americans. Even though those outdated light bulbs may be in working condition, and similar outdated light bulbs in the store may (or may not) be slightly cheaper than LEDs, it is cheaper for you to immediately replace your older bulbs with new LEDs. Whether you are a homeowner or renting a unit, you will feel the savings in the first year. By not completing this action, you are making the conscious decision to pay more for lighting. Based on conservative estimates of the number of incandescents, CFLs, and LEDs in the average American home, by completing Action 5 you will save yourself almost half of one full percent of your annual emissions. If you were to also take credit for the GHG emissions you'll be saving your housemates, the savings would be roughly 1% of your annual footprint. That is significant! The impact of completing Action 5 is:

Annual Savings:
70 kg CO2e
0.4% of your emissions
